Video on archaeological sites and landscapes

Peter Heimermann and Till Sonnemann conducted drone flights in the Gobi and Central Mongolia

The University of Bonn is researching the ruins of two cities from the Mongolian Empire (1206-1368) and their influence on the surrounding countryside as part of the DFG project The Urban Influence on the Mongolian Plateau: Interdependencies of Urbanism, Economy and Environment. The BCDH is involved in the research group with the sub-project Virtual Landscape and Multispectral Survey, in which Peter Heimermann, as PhD student, and Dr Matthias Lang, leading the sub-project, investigate the applicability of drone-based remote sensing methods in Mongolia. The expedition in May 2024 aimed to fly to archaeological sites in different areas in Mongolia to evaluate the scientific potential for drone remote sensing (RGB and multispectral) in these landscapes. In addition to the collection of research data, the video camera was also used when time allowed.

Video recordings (DJI Mavic and Sony camera) and their editing by Till Sonnemann. The music was generated by SunoAI.
