3D Documentation of the Saite Shaft Tombs in Sakkara

Since 2017, BCDH staff have been accompanying excavations at the Saite Shaft Tombs in Sakkara, Egypt, and for the first time, have conducted a complete 3D documentation of such an archaeological project in Egypt. ¹⁶

3D Documentation of the Main Temple in Athribis

In cooperation with researchers from the University of Tübingen, BCDH staff have completely captured the main temple in Athribis, Egypt by using a 3D scanner. The resulting highly accurate plan offers researchers a whole new viewing approach of the massive monument.¹⁷

Sarcophagi Ensembles in the Egyptian Museum Berlin

With the Egyptian Museum Berlin and Burkhard Backes of the University of Tübingen, two wooden sarcophagus ensembles consisting of the mummies, the inner and outer sarcophagi, and the canopic boxes were recorded using image-based 3D techniques.¹⁸

The Slave Trade in West Africa through the Letters of Paul Erdman Isert

Based on the letters of Paul Erdman Isert, a Prussian medical doctor in Danish service, together with the BCDSS, BCHD staff created an interactive and multimodal application on the slave trade on the African West Coast at the end of the 18th century.¹⁹

Database for Radiocarbon and Historically Dated Textiles

The database for radio carbon and historically dated textiles, developed and operated at the Department of Christian Archaeology, has been redesigned and enhanced with additional functionality by BCDH.²⁰

Spacialist - a Virtual Research Environment for the Spatial Humanities

Together with the eScience Center (now Digital Humanities Center) at the University of Tübingen, BCDH operates the open source tool Spacialist, which allows researchers working in with spatial and object-based methods to standardize the collection and analysis of all research data in an integrated and harmonized environment.²¹
